Atlas
As Covid restrictions have eased in the Jackson County courthouse, Atlas’s training has shifted to include escorting clients into the courtroom. During the course of the formal court processes, one of the most stressful times for clients is having to sit in the courtroom with and/or having to testify in front of their abuser. The ability to have Atlas sit with clients inside the courtroom adds a level of comfort and security to a potentially re-traumatizing event.
Recently, with the permission of the sitting judge, Atlas escorted a client to the witness stand and sat nearby as the client testified. He did great! We are so grateful for the continued support of the Jackson County Courthouse staff and we are looking forward to growing the pet therapy program in the near future to be able to assist even more clients!
